Presentation of Hydrogeology Group
The Hydrogeology Group (GHS) conducts research, teaching and knowledge transfer to society in the field of hydrogeology and geochemistry. It consists of two units that complement each other, interacting and forming synergies. These two units are:
a) The Departement of Civil Enginyering de la Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC).
b) The Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research (IDAEA-CSIC).
The Hydrogeology Group is working on the characterization of permeable media by hydraulic data, hydrochemical and environmental isotope. Applications include groundwater resources, aquifer management, study of wetlands and marshes, saltwater intrusion in the soil, waste storage and study of the unsaturated zone. The methods are regional and detailed, quantitative, with use of numerical modeling of flow and mass transport including the reactive component between dissolved substances or water-rock interaction.
