Effective dispersivities to simulate seawater intrusion
A vertically integrated formulation was developed for modeling regional seawater intrusion. A new term emerges from integration reflecting vertical variations of groundwater flux, which are essential for density dependent flow and that we approximate by means of a Fickian dispersion term.
We outline here a generic solution algorithm based on approximating the 3D distribution of salt mass fraction and water uxes from the 2D solution.The algorithm can be easily generalized to allow mixing in general sharp interface models.
