The Foundation aims to study and understanding of the scientific and technical basis for the exploration, collection, conservation, planning and management of groundwater as well as its interaction with the other phases of the hydrological cycle.

This is embodied in holding courses, meetings, meetings, seminars and conferences; in education and training in the hydrogeological sciences; in the implementation of projects and the publication of scientific studies.

In this context, the Foundation, together with the other sponsors, presents the 49th edition of the International Course on Groundwater Hydrology (CIHS), the 15th edition of CIHS version Distance (CIHS-d), the 4th edition of the Professional Master in Hydrogeology, the 5th edition of the training courses and distance Fundamental Hydrogeology Hydrogeology Mining and 3rd edition of the continuing education course to distance Hydrogeology applied to projects of International Cooperation for Development and Emergency.

Presentation

The need to meet the quality and quantity of water demand, implies a comprehensive use of them. Within this framework, groundwater may have an important role. Therefore, knowledge and rational exploitation is essential to good use of water resources, in a context of respect for the environment and social conditions.

In Catalonia, the long tradition of use of groundwater and pressing problems resulting from heavy exploitation done to meet the demand, led to the creation in 1966 of CIHS, based in Barcelona. Their goal is to form specialists able to cope with current and future problems of groundwater from their respective professional fields.

Present the 50th edition of the International Course on Groundwater Hydrology is a source of satisfaction for the Steering Committee and the Educational Commission thereof, confirms that it has a place CIHS between training and specialization for university graduates. Proof of this are the more than 1300 qualified professionals in previous years, from 40 countries, some of them working as senior members of the administration, business or university.
