In recent years, Carbon dioxide leakage into fresh water aquifers in various areas of Hamedan (western Iran) have caused a lot of problems. Severe corrosion of water well casings and pumps, decreasing crop yields, potable water supply crisis because of Deterioration of water quality and Sinkholes formation are some of these problems. there are no thermal anomalies, volcanic activities, oil and gas fields and Carbon dioxide Capture and Storage projects (CCS) in the study areas. The main purpose of this research is to realize the origin and mechanism of Carbon dioxide leakage into the freshwater aquifers and gas-rock-water reactions using hydrochemical and isotopic methods.
