Formation of magnesium silicate hydrates (M-S-H) in open systems.

Autor: Jordi Cama

M-S-H is a magnesium silicate hydrate that could be used as a low-pH cement (e.g. nuclear-waste encapsulation). M-S-H may also form on the surface of cement in the interaction zone between cement and clays (e.g., geological CO2 storage and disposal of radioactive wastes). In this talk, we show how we study the formation of M-S-H in open systems, which better represent natural surface/subsurface environments where ground and/or surface waters dissolve primary minerals.
